“Green”, “clean”, “all natural”…I don’t care what you call it, I’m sliiiiiiightly obsessed with creating and maintaining a chemical- and toxin-free lifestyle. Over the years (slowly but surely and with plenty of trial and error) I’ve found my favorite products for beauty, baby, personal hygiene, house cleaning, and home making, but just like that ongoing search for the best pair of jeans or perfect shade of lip stick, I’m always on the lookout for a new brand of chemical-free products that are “oh my gosh I have to text [insert best friend’s name here] now!” worthy.
Enterrrrrrrr…the Think Dirty Clean Beauty subscription box!
I’ve been a fan of the Think Dirty App for years. In fact, downloading Think Dirty was one of the first steps I took in my quest for toxin-free living because I knew it would help me learn about harmful ingredients and guide me towards cleaner products instead. The Think Dirty App scans product barcodes with a click of a button and rates them on a scale from zero to ten, “clean” to “dirty”, based on the type and number of toxic ingredients in them. This is a GAME. CHANGER. when you’re in the middle of the grocery store and are thoroughly frustrated and/or confused.

Well, Think Dirty partnered with the beauty brands that rank from zero to three on their “clean” to “dirty” scale and created a clean beauty subscription box full of hand-picked, high-end products, and eeeeeeeeek!…I ~finally~ got one!
Each box is valued at over $200, but depending on the type of subscription you buy, the box can cost as low as $65 per month. Each box comes with eight to ten full-sized items (no dinky sample-sized stuff here!) and is shipped right to your door. Every month they advertise what’s in the upcoming box so you can get a sneak peek…orrrrrrrr try your hardest not to look and keep it a surprise like I did.
To be totally honest, I normally wouldn’t splurge on something like this. First…I’m ridiculously loyal to the brands I know and love and feel pretty set in my favorite, all-natural choices. However, it was the holidays and that #treatyoself spirit was alive and well, so I hit that purchase button with zero guilt and I’m so excited to share what happened next!
First…why all-natural products
My passion for toxin-free living started a few years ago when I began questioning the effectiveness of birth control for managing endometriosis. I not only wanted to control my symptoms of pain and heavy periods, but also desired to get pregnant, which I was told would be basically be impossible, unlikely at best. So I followed the Instagram accounts, worked with a functional nutritionist, and prayed my little heart out, and all of the above led me to the easy (and kinda fun) first step of switching to all natural products.

Now…your girl is ~frugal~ and also not a big fan of waste. So this switch took tiiiiiiime. While I was excited and motivated, I definitely didn’t go through my home, scan each and every item with the Think Dirty App and throw out everything that wasn’t “clean”. Instead, I continued to use what I had, replaced it with a safer, healthier option once it ran out, and before I knew it the toxins were 99% gone. (I’m still on the hunt for a hairspray alternative and good eyebrow pencil, so send me a message if you know of any, m’kay?)

The changes I saw from this step alone convinced me that toxin-free living was the way to go – pain free and regular periods, stable mood, more energy, clearer skin, healthier immune system, aaaaaaand pregnant three months later – and I haven’t looked back since.

I’m now an ingredient-list readin’, pre-purchase researchin’ kinda gal, and my desire for safe and healthy products has made it’s way into ~literally~ every aspect of my life. While this lifestyle can cost more up front, I believe health is the most important thing you can spend your money on and it always provides the greatest return on investment.
What came in my Think Dirty Clean Beauty subscription box
Ok…now for the fun stuff. As I shared earlier, I’m kind of set in my ways with certain products and brands, but I’m also not opposed to finding the next best thing with even cleaner ingredients, better quality, greater results, or less environmental impact. So while there’s no one product I really ~needed~ to find or replace (except that hairspray and an eyebrow pencil…seriously…help a girl out if you know of anything), I thought it would be fun to try.
Here’s what was in the box –
Anointment Soothing Skin Ointment- I would consider this all-purpose herbal ointment the natural version of Neosporin, and I’m honestly so excited to have found this and have it in our medicine cabinet from here on out. It’s a descent-sized jar, has the most subtle but yummy scent, and a little balm goes a long way. I’ve already used it on a busted lip, cracked heels, a two-year-old’s scraped knees, and hand tears from CrossFit…and it works like a dream. This will definitely be a must-take on camping trips and is a re-purchase for sure.
Annmarie Deluxe Travel Skincare Kit- Ok…you know I loooooove my Primally Pure skincare regimen, but this trio is a close second. While I won’t be ~totally~ making the switch over to the Annmarie skincare line, the phytonutrient cleanser smells and feels s’good (like a citrus-y, lavender-y amazing-y mix) and the wild fruit serum gave my skin an instant glow. Again…I’m not ditching my tried and true, but I’ll definitely be mixing these products in through the weeks.
Intima Ziggy Menstrual Cup- This pelvic rehab therapist was absolutely giddy to see a menstrual cup in this subscription box…and this one’s a keeper! It just so happens I started my period a few days after getting this box, so I gave this cup a try and ended up using it the whole week. It’s soft, unnoticeable (even during workouts), and virtually leak-free. It’s a different shape than what I’m used to, so it took a little trial and error to start, but once I got the hang of it, there were zero issues. I’ve been meaning to get a new cup for a while now, and am excited to say I found it! Click here to learn my tips for menstrual cup use…I’ll be updating it soon to list the ziggy cup as my new fave.
Buck Naked Shampoo Bar- Besides hair spray and an eyebrow pencil, I was also on the hunt for a good all-natural shampoo. I have thin hair that gets greasy and weighed-down easily, so I need a light shampoo that can also cut the grease. And friend…THIS. IS. IT!!!! First of all, the bar is HUGE and it lathers so fast you really don’t need much – definitely a good bang for your buck. The scent isn’t my favorite (I’ve already browsed their website and will be trying this shampoo bar next), but it left my hair feeling clean and soft and full and I’m so excited to have found this!
Miribel Naturals Creamy Hair Cleanser- Speaking of shampoo, I was so excited to see this hair cleanser in the box, because…again…I was searching for the perfect clean shampoo. This was the first item from the box I tried, and I was honestly left a bit disappointed. Even with following the instructions to a “T”, I ended up with a head of hair that felt oily and heavy. I browsed their website for further instructions (I waaaaanted this to work), and found these products are primarily for curly hair. I definitely don’t have curly hair. Needless to say I won’t be buying this one again, but will definitely gift it to my ~very~ curly-haired sister and have her report back.
Miribel Naturals Hair Cleanser Brush- It might seem odd that this little brush is my favorite item in the box…but it is! You know how good it feels when your hairdresser washes your hair? This kindaaaaa feels like that. This brush now has a permanent place in our shower, and I use it every time I lather up. Supposedly it also removes scalp build-up and promotes hair growth (too soon to tell on that one, but I’ll letcha know), but It’s a hit either way and I’ll be telling everyone I know about it.
Aija Candle Studio Organic Soy Candle- Despite my love for that soft, flickering glow and warm, spicy fragrance that fills my home every time I light a candle (the best…right!?), I’ve overall eliminated them because it’s so hard to find a candle that doesn’t contain chemicals. And if I do find a candle that checks all my crunchy girl boxes, it tends to be ridiculously expensive and I just can’t bring myself to burn it. All that being said, It felt like such a treat to get this candle in the subscription box as I’ve overall resorted to battery-operated candles instead. I’m already burning this candle every chance I get, and will definitely keep this brand in mind if I decide to splurge on another.
WOSH Body Bar Soap- Call me crazy, but I haven’t used soap on my body in yeeeeears (click here to see what I use instead!) and I don’t plan to start again anytime soon. So this soap bar was probably my least favorite item simply because it doesn’t fit in with my self-care regimen. Our family also tries to limit seed oils from our lives as much as possible, and the first ingredient in this body bar is safflower seed oil, so my husband Bob likely won’t use it either. One flop product (for me, anyway) out of ten isn’t bad, and I’m excited to gift or donate it instead.
Why I loved (and will continue to purchase) this clean beauty subscription box
Did I need any of these items? No. Am I ~actually~ using them? Every day! Will I buy any of these products again? I miiiiiight have already hit the purchase button a time or two. I’m so happy to report this clean beauty subscription box blew my expectations out of the water and ended up being 100000000000% worth it in every way.
My favorite part of this subscription box is learning about new (to me), clean companies and being confident that everything supports my toxin-free living goals. From a few simple Google searches of the items above, I’ve already found other things like baby and pet care products I want to try, gift ideas, and companies I generally want to support. I would have never knows about these resources otherwise!
It’s also super fun to get something like [this] in the mail. I don’t do a ton of online shopping, so it’s always a treat to see a package on the front steps, especially when it’s full of health-conscious, splurge-worthy goodies like these. Self-care is something I’m always looking to promote and make time for, and this clean beauty subscription box definitely gave me an excuse to do so.
Finally, if I’m going to spend my money on one thing, it’s going to be my health and the health of those I love most. Now…these products are not necessities in any way, shape, or form, but we’re already regularly using 90% of the items that came in this box, and doing so knowing they’re safe. I also love the idea of gifting this to the hard-to-shop-for woman in your life, a new mom, or friend who’s working towards cleaner living, all while being conscious and concerned for her health is the process.
Long story short…this clean beauty subscription box has so much potential and I’m officially sold.
And that, my friend, is the amazingness of the Think Dirty, Clean Beauty Subscription Box. Aaaaaand because I loved it so much, I reached out to Think Dirty and you can get 10% off a box or subscription with code MAKEMANIFEST! How fun is it to think about you and I trying out the same toxin-free goodies together and doing so with a little more cash in our bank accounts. Seriously…I smile just thinking about it.
If the box just isn’t right for you for whatever reason, I highly recommend at least downloading the Think Dirty App to take advantage of all the goodness it has to offer – scanning products to get their “clean” or “dirty” rating, shopping safer options for beauty, baby, hygiene, and home, and learning about fun new companies dedicated to all-natural products.
Think Dirty was and continues to be a huge part of my journey towards managing endometriosis, getting pregnant, and now caring for myself and family in a way that I can be confident in and at peace with. What we put in, on, and around our bodies can make such a difference in our ~health~ in every sense of the word, and I’m so thankful for companies and products like this who are just as passionate about it as I am.
