As a pelvic floor physical therapist, it’s my job to teach women the strategies and exercises necessary to see change and improvement in their pelvic health. Need a stronger pelvic floor? Do X number of kegels a day. Have pain with intercourse? Try this pelvic floor relaxation technique. Want to know the best way to birth a baby? This breathing sequence should work for you.
And those strategies ~are~ successful for most.
But why don’t they work for everyone?
Why are there are still women living with incontinence, pelvic pain, pregnancy and postpartum issues despite readily available information just an appointment or click away? I share the exact methods one would need to see results right here in this online space and there are (likely hundreds of) other pelvic rehab specialists that offer the same, yet some women see results and others don’t.
The disparity isn’t in the information or instruction, but in the mind. Yes, friend, we’re getting a little woo-woo here today. It’s your beautiful brain that makes all the difference when it comes to healing, and I’m here to tell you that mindset is half the battle when addressing the pelvic floor.
Manifesting is the act of making something you think or feel a reality, and I’ve seen firsthand that this can and does in fact work for health issues too. If you want to get better, you’re more likely to get better. If you believe you can get better, it becomes a stronger possibility.
So here are 12 manifestations to help you in your pelvic healing journey. Take what serves you and leave what doesn’t. This is the first step in the healing process and I’m excited for you to begin today.
~ I am worthy of a healthy and functional pelvic floor. I deserve to feel good, to do what I love, and enjoy life without fear, embarrassment or pain hindering my happiness.
~ My healthy habits and proactivity will not only benefit me, but will encourage those around me to take their health into their own hands too. Healing has a ripple effect and I am ready to start the wave.
~ I have the time, energy, and resources to pursue healing. My health is important to me and I’m ready and willing to prioritize and invest my resources to make my pelvic health a reality.
~ I know my body better than anyone and deserve to be heard if I feel like something is wrong. I will trust my gut, educate myself, and pursue care from those who take the time to listen to my needs.
~ I am not defined by my pelvic pain or dysfunction. I have a beautiful mind, heart, and soul and am ready for my health to reflect who I am on the inside.
~ My past does not own me or dictate my future. While trauma, abuse, and other negative experiences can affect my pelvic floor, I’m in control of how they influence my body moving forward.
~ I am smart enough, resilient enough, persistent enough, and capable enough to withstand the highs and lows of achieving pelvic health. I know this process is not linear, but I have what it takes and want it enough to continue pushing forward.
~I am surrounded by people who love me and support my pelvic healing goals. Everyone who matters to me will encourage me on this journey and lift me up when I need it most.
~ Fear of failure or of wasting my efforts will not stop me from taking action. My efforts are well intentioned and I will find health when I pursue it.
~ My desire for pelvic health is stronger than my excuses. I am clear on my “why” for pursuing pelvic health and will come back to it if I begin to feel defeated or discouraged.
~ The medical professionals who are helping me have my best interests at heart. If I feel I need to try other medical options or avenues, I will confidently raise my concerns and ask questions to receive the care I need.
~ My physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health are all affected by my pelvic floor, and that’s a powerful thing. The pelvis is the life-giving center of the female body and it rightfully affects nearly all aspects of me. Because of this, my quality of life will improve exponentially as I find pelvic health and healing.
Mmmmmmm.
All of those phrases have so much power and potential behind them, and if any of these words spoke to you today, I encourage you to adopt one, two, or all 12 of these mantras as your own. And if none of them were quite right for where you are now, use the above as inspiration to bring your own manifestations to life.
As you decide where you want to put your energy, ask yourself…
- Do I really (like…really) want this?
- How will I benefit when this thought becomes a tangible reality?
- Does this feel right for where I currently am in my circumstances, abilities, and goals?
Next, you must get rid of the things that are standing in your way— limiting beliefs, excuses, or toxic people— so that you can forge ahead. And if you can’t remove these things, change the weight at which they influence your health-related decisions.
At this point, if you haven’t done so already, visualize what it would look like for your manifestations to come to fruition. Maybe you would move, act, dress, or socialize differently if you didn’t have to worry about incontinence. Your relationship would look and feel distinctively better if you didn’t have pain with intercourse. You would trust, love, and appreciate your body if you didn’t feel pain or pressure.
Finally, take action. I wish it was easy enough as “if you think it, it will come”, but that’s not how manifesting works. The mindset has been set, now you move towards that reality you’ve created. Download, print, and implement the free resources (you can find all of my favorites here). Make and attend the pelvic rehab appointment. Purchase and complete the online course.
If you can immerse yourself into the situation you want to be in, your beliefs, mindset, and ultimately actions are more likely to stand solid in that reality.
In this day and age, pelvic health really is available at the click of a button, you just need to trust that the ability and opportunity to heal are yours and that there ~is~ something you can do about it.
You do not have to “live with” your pelvic pain, vaginal heaviness, incontinence, or constipation. Let me say that again…just because you’ve had babies, you’re a woman, are older/younger, like to exercise, etc., you do not have to live with your pelvic floor issues. And if you can own the manifestations above, those thoughts can and will become your reality. I’m sure of it.
